In My Lungs The Ocean Swells
The Cavern, Vault Festival, 4-9 Feb 2020
We are seafarers. We catch fish, always have.
'In My Lungs the Ocean Swells' is a coming-of-age story about a boy, a girl and the sea amidst the decline of the British Fishing Industry churned into a thrilling poetic, musical and visual experience.
The ocean is the centre of all life, especially for Julie and Simon: for generations their families were sustained by the sea. But now Julie dreams of a life beyond the coast, while Simon can’t see beyond the nets. As Julie makes her way inland, the nets keep coming back empty and no one seems to care.
As social and political upheaval grip the country and climate and ecological crisis shake the world, the eye of the storm is on the Cornish Coast. Faced with a catastrophe that will change their world forever, can Julie and Simon regain control over their futures?
